There is an opening scene in the movie The Nanny Diaries where Scarlett Johansson is being interviewed for her first post-grad job. The interviewer asks her to talk about who she is. She assumes this to be an easy question and then stumbles around for a minute before realizing she has no good answer. In fact, it is not an easy question at all.
I’ve always found “tell me about yourself” questions to be particularly difficult and I’m not quite sure how to tell you about me here. I could tell you the basic stuff…that I like
dogs, being outside, cold weather, anything minty, and Bruce Springsteen…
…that I don’t like hot weather, slow drivers, scary movies, olives, or swimsuits.
I could tell you the logistical stuff: I am a junior at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in the School of Kinesiology majoring in Movement Science with a minor in Writing. I’m from a small town in Michigan and I want to go to grad school for exercise physiology and eventually on to public health.
So, it’s kind of like a paint by numbers. I think that you will fill in a lot of the numbers just by exploring this portfolio. Writing has a way of indirectly saying more about a person than any “About Me” page or formulated response. This page will fill give you some of the basic colors so that you can fill in the rest of the picture as you explore the portfolio.
